Investigator who exposed Jimmy Savile brands Madeleine McCann probe 'disjointed'

The TV investigator who exposed Jimmy Savile as a paedophile last night branded the three-force police probe into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance “disjointed and fractious”.

Former police officer Mark Williams-Thomas accused detectives from the three countries involved in the investigation of withholding information from each other.

He said Portuguese police had not told their German counterparts they were conducting new searches of three wells for Madeleine’s remains.

And he said the Germans had not told the Metropolitan Police the “full details” of the evidence they had acquired against prime suspect Christian Brueckner – including why they were convinced the youngster is dead.

Mr Williams-Thomas – a former police family liaison officer whose TV documentary outed Savile as a predator following his death – said he was not even convinced the Portuguese’s recent searches were related to Madeleine’s case.

Instead he suggested they may be part of the probe into the murder of Dutchman Kenny Dijksma, 60, whose body was found on May 21 in his home in Vila do Bispo, Portugal.

It’s a 20 minutes’ drive from Praia da Luz from where Madeleine vanished 13 years ago.

He tweeted: “It’s clear that the relationship between the three police forces remains disjointed and fractious.

“For example: Portuguese did not tell the Germans about the new searches and Germans did not tell British about full details they initially released.

“The Portuguese media reported the wells and drains were searched very recently in connection with #MadeleineMcCann & #ChristianBrueckner.

Mr Dijksma suffered serious fatal injuries.

His decomposing body was found in his bed a week after he was last seen at a party.

Portuguese police are hunting his killer.
