Joe George knocks out Marcos Escudero with explosive uppercut in boxing rematch

Joe George delivered a devastating uppercut to knockout rival Marcos Escudero in the ninth round of their rematch.

George won the first fight between the pair nine months earlier by a controversial split decision but his vicious knockout blow means there is no controversy surrounding the rematch.

The ten round fight opened Showtime Championship Boxing ‘s first event in nearly six months and Escudero was comfortably leading all three judges scorecards when George delivered the knockout blow.

“I was setting him up with the jab to the body and had him leaning over a little,” George said. “I wanted him to get relaxed and that’s exactly what he did.

“He was relaxed, I slipped over and shot it. Really, he gave it to me and I had to take it and put him down.

“The result is self-explanatory. I don’t have to say nothing. I’m willing to fight whoever next. One fight at a time and I’ll be prepared for whatever’s on the way.”

George and Escudero were fighting on the undercard of Angelo Leo vs Tramaine Williams.

Escudero was floored by the brutal punch

Unbeaten junior featherweight Leo emerged victorious with a unanimous decision win which saw him claim the recently vacated WBO title.

“It feels good. It still hasn’t sunken in yet,” Leo said after the win. “It feels surreal.

“The first few rounds, I was just feeling him out and getting his timing. I felt him kind of loosening up and breaking down, and that’s when I started putting pressure on him.

“That was the key factor in this fight — the body work. I came here to take a world title and win a world title, and that’s exactly what I did.

“Boxing is the ultimate truth teller. It detects all lives in there once you get in that ring. In there, it showed my mental fortitude, how tough I am in there and how I can adapt.”
