John Bercow’s Christmas message has viewers swearing at TV – 'Feel a bit s****y' 1

John Bercow said that “democracy has come in for a pounding” and called for “personal courtesy” as he delivered the Alternative Christmas Message on Channel 4. The former Speaker of the House of Commons previously faced accusations of being a bully while holding the role. But his message from a children’s state secondary school sparked criticism online as people ripped into Mr Bercow.

One said: “That was weird. I was watching Tiger Who Came To Tea, getting all Christmas-y and then John Bercow popped his head in my living room and made me feel a bit s*****.”

Another said: “Never thought John Bercow would be delivering a Christmas message.”

A third said: “I’m watching some weird thing with John Bercow on channel 4. I don’t know what’s happening. Merry Christmas.”

Another added: “Why’s John bercow on my TV what a t***. Good riddance you biased t***.”

He said: “I passionately support parliamentary democracy. For all the criticism and abuse lobbed at MPs, I’m still a cheerleader for them.”

He called for the nation to “take inspiration from young people” and “try to re-establish civility of discourse”.

“It would be good for Parliament, for democracy and for our own mental health,” he said.

“This Christmas, I urge that political difference, personal courtesy should become our guiding lights in 2020, in the Commons, in our workplaces and in our homes.”
