John Lennon’s bizarre move to show dedication to Yoko Ono revealed 1

John was one quarter of the internationally famous band The Beatles. Along with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, he became a renowned figure within the music world and his songs are still popular today. However, the band broke up in 1970. Fame had caused great rifts between the four band members and they began to drift musically.

Many fans pointed the finger at John’s scandalous affair with the mysterious and elusive Yoko Ono.

He left his childhood sweetheart and first wife Cynthia to run away with Yoko, and it was not long after that when he decided he wanted a “divorce” from The Beatles too.

He went on to have his own successful solo career, and produce some music with Yoko, including his 1971 hit Imagine.

The two of them appeared to be deeply in love and greatly dedicated to one another.

As the Liverpool Echo revealed in October last year, the singer even officially changed his middle name by deed poll from Winston to Ono.

The article explained: “On April 22, 1969, John formally changed is middle name by deed poll from Winston to Ono in a ceremony on top of the Apple building in Savil Row.”

However, while he continued to use John Ono Lennon, official documents referred to him as John Winston Ono Lennon because UK law does not allow a birth name to be revoked.

In Keith Badman’s 200 book ‘The Beatles: Off the Record’, he quoted John as saying: ‘Yoko changed her name for me and I’ve changed mine for her. One for both, both for each other.

He added: “Immediately following the informal ceremony John and Yoko record the heartbeat’s track, alter to appear on their Wedding Album record.”

However, John did have an 18-month affair with the couples’ secretary May Pang, although Yoko later revealed that she had in fact set the two of them up because she wanted a “rest” from her relationship with John.

In a 2012 interview with The Telegraph, Yoko admitted: The affair was something that was not hurtful to me. I needed a rest, I needed space.
