Kate and William “ramped up the Instagram war” with Meghan and Harry, Money-Coutts claimed
Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William have been competing with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to have the most-followed Instagram account since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex launched their profile in May 2018. Both couples currently have over 11.3 million followers on their public accounts but expert Sophia Money-Coutts suggested the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have “ramped up” their social media “war” with a new loving picture of themselves. Discussing a photo of Prince William and Kate taken during the recent tour of Ireland and later shared on Instagram, Ms Money-Coutts told True Royalty TV: “There was one of the Ireland pictures of Kate and William, they had their arms around each other.
“Harry and Meghan hold hands the whole time, so it was a sort of ‘so can we, we’re in love too.’
“It’s sweet, it’s a lovely, lovely picture but I just can’t imagine they would have done that maybe a few years ago.”
She added: “It’s in the ramping up of the Instagram war or something.”
Kate and William have been known to be rather private about public displays of affections but the couple have grown more casual through the years.

Discussing the more open behaviour the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge adopted during the Ireland tour at the start of March, ITV royal producer Lizzie Robinson told HeirPod: “They don’t go over the top, do they?
“But there were a couple of really sweet moments, particularly on the cliff walk that they did.
“You saw them linking arms sort of in the distance from the cameras.
“As they got a little bit closer they unlinked arms.”

Ms Robinson continued: “Then there was a shot up on the top of the cliff with the Irish Sea in the background where they’ve got their arms around each other laughing at the cameras.
“So yes they really do seem comfortable doing that now in front of the cameras.
“In a way that maybe they didn’t in the past.”
According to body language expert Robin Kermode, Queen Elizabeth II, by never getting too close to her husband Prince Philip in public, has created a precedent that most senior royals prefer to follow.
Royal Family members have several social media accounts
He said: “The Queen rarely holds hands with her husband in public and this seems to have set an unwritten precedent for the other royals.”
As the Duke of Cambridge will one day become King, William and Kate are particularly careful with how they show their affection in public.
However, despite not showing off their love too often, Mr Kermode said the gestures and behaviour Kate and William have with one another clearly show they are “emotionally close”.
Mr Kermode continued: “It is very clear that William and Kate are emotionally close, however, they do not seem to feel the need to prove their love — particularly when on official state business.
“They come across as a strong, independent couple and while they are always on show, they do not feel the need to ‘show’ their love for each other to the world.”
