Kym Marsh, 43, admitted she and her eight-year-old daughter Polly had been suffering from an unpleasant stomach in a candid Instagram post last month. The Coronation Street star has now responded to social media users who slammed the soap star for going back to work after contracting the norovirus, which is also known as the “winter vomiting bug”.
The actress has stuck by her decision to go and perform because she was booked in to perform at a Christmas pantomime.
In her latest column for this week’s OK! magazine, Kym wrote: “Polly and I both had the norovirus vomiting bug over the holidays.
“I went back to work on Elf: A Christmas Spectacular 24 hours later and people were saying that I was irresponsible putting others at risk. When you’re booked to do a show you have to turn up!”
Kym’s remarks comes after she was slammed by some social media users for not staying at home during her illness.

Coronation Street star Kym Marsh reacts to ‘irresponsible’ claims
Kym Marsh and her daughter Polly had the norovirus in December
At the time, the soap star had posted a snap alongside her daughter Polly who was clutching a bottle of Lucozade.
In view of her 359,000 followers, she said: “So after me and Polly both got struck down with the norovirus last night, today I am thankful for makeup and lucozade!! The show must go on as they say!”
Fans inundated the star with comments, with some people supporting her decision but others shared their criticism.
One social media user said: “Should be in bed and away from people for 48 hours from the last time you were sick chick, honestly you could give your whole cast mates the virus, hope you feel better soon.”

Another person commented: “Shouldn’t be near anyone until you’re symptoms clear for 48 hours.”
While a third person added: “You shouldn’t be near anyone … your gonna give it to everyone else..I know it’s your job and you don’t want to let people down but when you have that you need to stay at home.”

Another person added: “Poor you. I sympathise I’m on the sofa under a duvet and I feel rotten.”
According to the NHS, those who have the condition are most infectious within the first two to three days of experiencing symptoms.
It wasn’t all bad news for the former Coronation Street star as she attended the Elf wrap party the same week.
Kym explained: “We had a great time at the Elf wrap party at Krystle night club in Dublin.
“Emilie [daughter] and David [son] flew over with their dad Dave to celebrate his 50th and we had great fun. I love the Elf cast so much!”
She also shared a snap from their night out on the picture-sharing site alongside her eldest daughter Emilie, 24.
The soap star captioned the post: “Amazing night with great friends thank you @krystledublin.”
Meanwhile, Kym revealed her excitement at being reunited with her boyfriend Scott Ratcliffe, 32, after spending the festive period apart.
He is a major in the Parachute Regiment and is currently on tour in the Middle East, where has been serving since October.
Kym spoke of his return: “I’m really excited to see him. We’ve been apart for four months so far. It’s never going to be easy being away from Scott but at least I now know I can do it and – it won’t be forever.”
