A man has been killed in a “freak accident” when he fell off his skateboard and was slashed by a beer bottle in his pocket.
The victim, whose name and age have not been released by the police, hit the pavement when he was skating along McKimmie Road in Palmyra, Australia last Friday.
CCTV footage captured a man falling off his skateboard (pictured) in Palmyra on Friday night
Street surveillance camera from across the road captured the chilling moment he fell off the board onto the uneven footpath.
The man is seen holding a pizza box in hand while skating down the deserted road at around 8pm.
He shortly trips over and falls to the ground near the lamp post.
Western Australia authorities reported that the man was carrying a glass bottle in his pocket when the freak accident happened, according to 7News.
The glass smashed and severed his femoral artery on his thigh, causing him to bleed.
Witnesses tried to stop the bleeding but paramedics were unable to save him when they arrived.
Police are investigating what caused the skateboarder to fall.
Some local residents pointed out that the dim street lighting and uneven footpath could have been to blame for the man’s death.
The City of Melville local government has put up a sign to warn people about the hazardous footpath.
Flowers were laid next to the sign to pay tribute to the skateboarder’s tragic death.
The local council refused to comment on the incident as the man’s death is currently under investigation.
Uneven footpath has been listed as a potential factor in the skateboarder’s death, with council rangers putting up a sign warning pedestrians to watch their step at the spot where he died on Monday
