Lewis Hamilton has issued a heartfelt message after Stirling Moss tragically passed away on Sunday. The former F1 driver died after a lengthy illness. Lady Moss confirmed her husband’s passing on Sunday.
Lady Moss, who nursed him through a long illness, was at his bedside as he died in their house in Mayfair.
She said: “He died as he lived, looking wonderful. He simply tired in the end and he just closed his beautiful eyes and that was that.”
Tributes poured in for Moss following the tragic news.
And Hamilton has now spoken out, with the Mercedes star hailing Moss as a racing legend.
He wrote on Twitter: “Today we say goodbye to Sir Stirling Moss, the racing legend.
“I certainly will miss our conversations. I am truly grateful to have had these special moments with him.
“Sending my prayers and thoughts to his family. May he rest in peace.”
Hamilton’s team Mercedes also posted a tribute to Moss.
Mercedes added: “Today, the sporting world lost not only a true icon and a legend, but a gentleman. The Team and the Mercedes Motorsport family have lost a dear friend. Sir Stirling, we’ll miss you.”
Moss was regarded as one of the best drivers to never win an F1 championship.
He finished runner up on four occasions in the F1 driver’s championship, however.
