The Lib Dems, led by former leader Jo Swinson, endured a humiliating general election and remain with 12 MPs. Taking to Twitter, a BBC reporter took a picture of the new batch of MPs as they stood outside Parliament. The caption read: “A low profile event – the new Lib Dem family photo.”
The photograph sees the Lib Dems’ remaining MPs smiling, metres away from the camera.
But the picture sparked hilarious comments from those on Twitter, who savaged the party.
One wrote: “Bloody hell.
“Looks more like a badly-attended wake, which (in a way) I guess it is.”
Another said: “Didn’t need the wide angle for that shot!”
A third added: “I would have thought that their leader Jo Swinson would have turned up to welcome these newbies to Parliament for the 1st time.
It comes as Ms Swinson endured a final round of humiliation after what appeared to be her final Twitter message as party chief was mocked by the public.

“It’s a huge job to be done, the answer is that we step up, we organise, we join together.
“Though I won’t be your leader I will be walking alongside you.”
It was signed off by Ms Swinson.
Despite the goodwill, Twitter users were quick to blast the one-time MP.
One wrote: “You threw away all the work done to challenge Brexit in favour of giving Johnson the GE he wanted, fronted a narcissistic campaign that killed the resurgence and now we have a Tory majority for Brexit.
“Hang your head.
“You tried to hijack a movement and screwed us all.”
