Lisa Kudrow has revealed there will be a huge twist to the highly-anticipated reunion programme involving the entire original stars.
The actress, who portrayed Pheobe Buffay on the hit US sitcom, discussed what fans can expect from the one-off show, and said it’s not going to be a classic chat with the cast and creators, instead there’s a whole host of surprises in store.
Friends became a cult hit when it first aired in 1994, and propelled the cast –Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, and Lisa – into household names.
Speaking to the press to promote her new Netflix comedy Space Force, Lisa said: “It is definitely going to happen. We just keep putting dates in the calendar. When we can do it, we will do it.
“[The planning] was pretty far along, but it seemed pretty clear that if people can’t gather then we can’t do it.”
The reunion special was originally due to air on May 27 to mark the launch of new US streaming platform HBO Max, however, with the States struggling to grapple with the pandemic, the programme has been postponed.
When questioned about the format of the show and if it would be unscripted or the cast divulging in behind-the-scenes antics, she answered: “There are other things in it.”
Lisa added: “There are other things to it; things I shouldn’t really talk about because they should be good – but those things can’t happen [right now].
“We just decided on another date and we’ll see if we can do it then.”
Friends, based on a group of six pals living in New York, ran for ten seasons and wrapped in 2004.
Since the emotional final episode aired all those years ago, fans have begged the show’s creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman to reprise the series – something, they said, would never happen.
While Friends 2.0 is definitely off the cards, the stars of the show announced a special one-off episode which will see everyone involved in the show back together for the very first time since Friends ended.
All for the cast announced something was in the works on Instagram when they posted the same photo in February, writing: ” It’s happening…”
