Matt Hancock refused to rule out further lockdowns across the south-east and and south-west of England, given the growing R-number in the regions. This comes after the Government announced a ban on separate households meeting each other indoors across northern England. The abrupt ban covers Greater Manchester, east Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire following a spike in coronavirus cases.
Sky News host Stephen Dixon questioned whether this ban could extend to southern England, and even the capital London.
Dixon asked: “Do you think there will be further action in southwest, and indeed in the capital itself, in the coming weeks? Is that looking like a possibility?”
Matt Hancock refused to rule out this drastic measure, adding: “We are prepared to take the action to keep people safe.
“In the south-west and south-east, the number of cases is lower but we don’t shy away from taking that action where it is necessary.”
