London police attacked with acid during drugs raid – 10 officers rushed to hospital

Firearms officers attended an industrial area in Dale Close, Barnet, at 1.50pm, as part of an anti-drugs operation today. They were injured by a “suspected corrosive substance” at the scene.



The Met Police said in a statement: “10 firearms officers are believed to have suffered injuries and are receiving medical treatment at hospital.

“We await an assessment of the extent of these injuries.

“However none are believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

“We are working to inform their families.”

The police added a number of males who were arrested were also taken to hospital 

The Met Police said: “A number of males were arrested on suspicion of drug offences at this stage.

“They have been taken to hospital having also suffered injuries related to the substance.

“Their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening.

“Officers remain at the scene and enquiries continue.”

London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade colleagues were also called to the scene.

The attack is not being treated as terror-related.

Dramatic footage showed a police cordon around Dale Close.

A number of ambulances were also seen parked along the road. 

A woman filming was heard saying “Oh my god” as sirens blared in the distance. 

The video also panned to officers walking up towards the cordon.

They had emerged from police cars and vans that were also parked along the road.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he was shocked by the incident.

He said on Wednesday evening: “I am shocked that a number of Met police officers have been taken to hospital with injuries believed to be caused by a corrosive substance after they carried out a drugs operation in Barnet this afternoon.

“It is a stark reminder of the real dangers our hard-working officers face every day as they keep us safe.

“On behalf of all Londoners, I wish them a speedy recovery.”
