Louise Minchin: BBC Breakfast host in show exit admission ‘I won’t do another 20 years'

Louise Minchin, 52, has addressed her future on BBC Breakfast while marking the show’s 20 years on air. The presenter, who has worked on the programme for 19 years, admitted she can’t see herself staying on the show for another 20 years.

While discussing BBC Breakfast’s big anniversary, Louise gushed: “We have an incredibly loyal audience. Many of them will have been with us for that 20 years.

“So I feel like it’s a big achievement for us, and something that we should celebrate.”

However, she then added: “Often people ask, ‘What other job would you like to do?’

“Well do you know what? I love this job.

The host told The Mirror: “When I started, if you had said to me, ‘You’ll be doing this job in five years,’ I’d have gone, ‘No chance’.

“Football Focus I’ve done for a long time, but that job changes all the time, so it feels very different.

“But mostly I’ve only really been places 18 months, and then I’ve moved on. It’s a great gig, and I love it. And from day one Louise made the job really easy.”

Praising his co-star, Dan revealed working with Louise has encouraged him to stay in the job.

He continued: “I wouldn’t have done it for as long and enjoyed it for this long without being able to sit next to somebody like her. I’ve learned an awful lot from her.

“My contract is continuing, so I’m not going yet.”

Elsewhere, Louise opened up to fans about her latest challenge away from the show, running the London Marathon to raise money for Age UK.

She told her 63,000 Instagram followers: “This year, for the first time I was planning to run the @londonmarathon to help raise much needed funds for @age_uk whose work I have seen first-hand on @BBCBreakfast.

“As you will know, for amateur runners like me, the race has very sadly been postponed to next year, which means that potentially the charities lose out on a huge amount of money.”

She went on to reveal: “BUT, here is the exciting/scary bit, I can still run the Virtual London Marathon on the 4th of October.

“I have 24 hours to do it on a course of my choice and I am still planning to do the 26.2 miles for @age_uk.”

Louise then thanked those who have donated and sponsored her for the previous work she has done to raise money for charity.
