Highways England has warned of treacherous conditions at reduced speed limits to 30mph. Accidents caused chaos between Junction 23 and Junction 24 near Bridgwater as drivers battled through sleet and hail. Motorists are being urged to take extra care in difficult driving conditions.

Motorists across the south west are being urged to take extra care in hazardous driving conditions after multiple crashes were reported on the busy A30 near the Devon and Cornwall border.

Road and traffic monitoring service Inrix reported: “Hazardous driving conditions and heavy traffic due to hail and ice on A30 in both directions between A38 Launceston Road (Callywith, Bodmin) and A386 (Okehampton).

“The road is slushy and difficult due to thundery weather conditions this morning. There have been multiple accidents involving vehicles leaving the road this morning.”
