The traffic collision took place shortly after 9am this morning between junction 10a and 10 on the M6 southbound carriageway.
Police are currently attending the scene and have been forced to shut two lanes, Highways England report.
Highways England wrote on Twitter: “Traffic collision #M6 southbound between junction 10a #M54Link and 10 #Walsall two lanes affected. #Police on scene #TrafficOfficers en route.”
Traffic congestion is currently stretching for six miles with delays of up to 30 minutes.
There are also delays stretching back to J1 of the M54.
Highways England is advising people to allow extra time for their journeys.
Motorists are also experiencing delays further up the M6 as a lane has been closed on the southbound carriageway between Kuntsford Services and Holmes Chapel at J18.
Cheshire Fire services have attended the scene to assess the safety of a broken down vehicle on the road.
