MAA: February vehicle sales up 1.5% 1

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s vehicle sales saw an uptick of 590 units or 1.5% year-on-year (yoy) in February to 40,403 units, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

However, on a month-on-month basis, sales volume declined 5.3% or 2,249 units.

“This is due to delays in new model launches, as well as the negative impact of Covid-19 outbreak on consumer sentiments,” said the association in a statement.

For the first two months of the year, vehicles sales contracted 5.9% to 83,055 units.

For March, MAA expects sales volume to be lower than February, attributed to restrictions due to the Movement Control Order from March 18 to 31.

Total vehicle production for February 2020 stood at 40,371 units, an increase of 1.1% or 453 units from the same month of the previous year.

During the month, production for passenger vehicles rose 3.2% or 1,163 units to 37,893 units, while commercial vehicle production fell 22.3% or 710 units to 2,478 units.
