MAN CITY 4-0 LIVERPOOL

90: Four minutes added time. Jordan Henderson booked for a wild challenge on Joao Cancelo. He’s still playing like this is the title-decider.

89: “I can’t wait where this lot are back where they should be… in sixth,” says Gary Neville. There’s absolutely nothing happening on the field so Neville, Jamie Carragher and Martin Tyler are just enjoying a chat. Quite nice really.

86: I saw a report that Liverpool weren’t going to break the bank in the upcoming transfer market. Instead, they’ll look to blood the youngsters. I would be amazed if that happens. I know they’ve won the title at a canter but still, other sides are improving. Chelsea with a couple through the door already.

83: Takumi Minamino on for Sadio Mane. Who certainly isn’t happy about that decision. Throws his tape to the floor and trudges off.

80: Final ten minutes folks. Kevin De Bruyne tries to turn a looping cross over Alisson with his head but he’s sent it well wide. Finally… he’s done something not fantastic.

78: It’s just been confirmed by a couple of sources that Birmingham’s Jude Bellingham has joined Borussia Dortmund. Think he was linked with quite a few Premier League clubs.

More changes. Bernardo Silva and Nicolas Otamendi on for Aymeric Laporte and Raheem Sterling.

75: Joao Cancelo replaces Kyle Walker. Jurgen Klopp makes a change too with Nico Williams replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold. Good young talent this fella. You’d think it would be nigh-on impossible for him to break into the first-team ion a regular basis though.

72: Liverpool find themselves four goals down in a Premier League game for the first time since September 2017, which was also against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium (5-0 defeat). Drinks break.

69: Could and probably should be 5-0. Phil Foden makes a fine run in behind Trent Alexander-Arnold and finds Raheem Sterling in the middle. He should convert with a first-time effort but checks inside and the chance is gone.

MAN CITY 4-0 LIVERPOOL | OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN OG

66: GOAL! Manchester City hit the newly crowned Premier League champions for FOUR at the Etihad Stadium.

Again, Kevin De Bruyne is pulling the strings. He slides a perfectly-weighted pass through to Raheem Sterling, who promptly leaves Andrew Robertson for dead with a nifty turn inside. The winger’s effort is heading wide but substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain diverts it past Alisson.

63: Blocked! Sadio Mane weaves his way into the penalty area, striding pasty Kyle Walker before cutting the ball back for Roberto Firmino, whose goal-bound effort is blocked bay Aymeric Laporte.

More changes for Liverpool as Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum are replaced by Naby Keita and Divock Origi.

60: That’s got to be a dig from Pep Guardiola, right? He’s dragged Gabriel Jesus off before the 60-minute mark. Riyad Mahrez on.

58: Drama! Now… what’s going on here? Liverpool want a penalty when Kyle Walker collides with Sadio Mane. It goes to VAR and it’s adjudged to have been JUST outside the penalty area. Trent Alexander-Arnold steps up… nope. The full-back sends it wide.

56: Liverpool getting an idea of what happens if they drop even slightly from the amazing intensity they have had over the last two years.

54: And another one! Manchester City are on fire here. Liverpool haven’t woken up. Kevin De Bruyne finds Phil Foden inside the box, but the midfielder’s connection is poor.

51: Chance! And what a chance it was. Trent Alexander-Arnold inexplicably throws the ball straight to Gabriel Jesus, who gratefully collects. The Brazilian jinks through nicely and then fires straight at Alisson. Such a waste.

48: Jurgen Klopp is having a pop at Mike Dean on the sidelines. That’s a bearded Mike Dean, who’s wearing a mask. Quite a sight. Not actually sure what the conversation is about.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Raheem Sterling then have a minor altercation after the City star shoved Trent in the chest. Much Ado About Nothing.

MAN CITY 3-0 LIVERPOOL

45: Aaaaand we’re back underway. Jurgen Klopp has a face like thunder and will NOT want to see a fourth Manchester City goal scored tonight.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on for Joe Gomez. I’d assume Fabinho will be partnering Virgil van Dijk in the centre of defence.

MAN CITY 3-0 LIVERPOOL

HT: Manchester City scintillating. Liverpool partied too much? Who knows. They’ve been dreadful at the back. I suppose their least could be slashed to a measly 20 points…

MAN CITY 3-0 LIVERPOOL | FODEN

45: GOAL! “He’s playing like he has had a week on the lash,” says Gary Neville on Andrew Robertson. And that’s because the Scottish international is nowhere near Manchester City star Phil Foden, who collects a pass from Kevin De Bruyne and lifts it over Alisson.

What was I just saying about young Foden?

43: Phil Foden has got it all. This time next year he’ll be a starter for England at the Euros surely.

40: Booked! What’s that for then? I think Benjamin Mendy has been booked for time-wasting? Is that right? Bit harsh from Anthony Taylor if you ask me.

37: Jurgen Klopp isn’t too pleased. In fact, he’s livid. He can’t hide his disappointment as he strides agitated inside his technical area.

Raheem Sterling has scored his first Premier League goal against former club Liverpool, in what his ninth appearance against them in the competition. It’s true. Opta said so.

MAN CITY 2-0 LIVERPOOL | STERLING

34: GOAL! Manchester City making light work of the Premier League champions tonight. Celebratory hangover maybe?

Phil Foden marches upfield and is allowed to reach the edge of the Liverpool penalty area unopposed. He squares it for Raheem Sterling, who cuts inside Joe Gomez and buries it. Think. That’s the first time ex-red Sterling has scored against his former club in the Premier League.

32: Ok, I’ll say it. I don’t think Gabriel Jesus is good enough for Manchester City. And I really don’t think he’ll ever be capable of filling Sergio Aguero’s boots. There. I said it.

Happy to have egg on my face but that’s my opinion.

29: Honestly… he’s too good. Kevin De Bruyne is playing in a fixture with pretty-much the best two squads in Europe and he still looks head and shoulders above the rest. A precise reverse pass finds Gabriel Jesus inside the box but the Brazilian slips on his backside.

26: I seem to remember Joe Gomez and Raheem Sterling having a barney in the reverse fixture earlier this season. In fact, I think it was a physical altercation when they met for England duty. Anyway, it’s a drinks break.

MAN CITY 1-0 LIVERPOOL | DE BRUYNE

24: Penalty to Manchester City! Joe Gomez is wrestling with Raheem Sterling inside the box and referee Anthony Taylor awards the penalty. Stonewall really.

GOAL! Kevin De Bruyne steps up… bang! Sends Alisson the wrong way and converts with ease. Two goalkeepers wouldn’t have stopped that.

22: Gary Neville is discussing the difference between Liverpool and Manchester City. He thinks it boils down to the defences. Pure and simple. I think it would be difficult to argue against that given the twos records this season.

19: Woodwork! Mohamed Salah, who is desperate to win the Gold Boot, nearly adds to his tally. Roberto Firmino plays a neat reverse pass into the Egyptian. He strides forward and fires a low, well-struck effort against the post.

16: Benjamin Mendy pings an absolute belter of a delivery through the six-yard box but there’s no Manchester City player able to apply the finish touch. Phil Foden got closest.

13: Slight injury worry for Kevin De Bruyne, who trod on the ball when challenging Fabinho for possession. Trent Alexander-Arnold sends in a cross aimed for Sadio Mane, who guides it wide of the target.

10: Unrelated to this game – but Bayern Munich’s Arabic website have posted numerous photos of Leroy Sane, which have now being deleted.

Ha! There’s the unmistakeable sound of fireworks around the stadium and Gary Neville responds: “You’re lot again. Have a look in his [Jamie Carragher] bag to see off he’s got any. Did you use them all up last Friday?”

Saucy.

8: Quite funny seeing how these two match up. Only in the sense that both defences are pushed up so high that virtually everyone is stood in the middle third of the field. Makes for an extremely exciting, end-to-end game.

Sadio Mane beats the offside trap but Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross field pass is slightly too wide. I think we’ll be seeing more of that combination tonight. Kyle Walker was nowhere to be seen.

5: Chaos in the Manchester City defence. That’s been a familiar story this season. Mohamed Salah races inside and collects a long ball forward before sending a half-volley at Ederson. The rebound falls to Roberto Firmino, but the Brazilian can’t connect with any real conviction. Early let-off for the hosts.

3: Wait… what has Roberto Firmino done to his hair? He’s dyed it red. Bit on the nose isn’t it, Bobby?

To matters ON the pitch, this one has started exactly how you would have expected. Liverpool aren’t straying from their style that’s won them a first league title since the 1989-90 campaign and Pep Guardiola certainly isn’t changing his approach.

Gabriel Jesus has the ball in the net early doors but he’s offside and knew it.

MAN CITY 0-0 LIVERPOOL

1: Hello everyone… a million apologies for being late to the party. I was busy watching Sheffield United thrash Tottenham at Bramall Lane. 3-1 and Jose Mourinho’s side were appalling.

Moving swiftly on… It’s a real 23-pointer at the Etihad this evening.

And before you ask – YES – Manchester City did give champions Liverpool the traditional guard of honour as they entered the field. Must have been galling for Raheem Sterling.

It was well observed, as you might have expected with all the City players clapping and stopping the second the final Reds player walked through.

MAN CITY vs LIVERPOOL

Manchester City will be without Fernandinho for tonight’s showdown at the Etihad Stadium.

The midfielder must complete a two-match suspension having been dismissed against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Joel Matip will miss the rest of the campaign because of a foot injury.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could welcome back James Milner, who has returned to training after a hamstring issue caused him to sit out the win over Crystal Palace.
