Bone-chilling footage has captured a basement door repeatedly banging as if someone – or something – is trying to escape in a scene straight out of a horror movie.
It begins with a man walking down his hallway before stopping to stroke his dog on the stairs, who appears to be fixated on something.
He then turns the corner to face the door to his basement, which appears to be getting pushed back and forth and making a rattling noise.
The nightmarish scene makes it look like there is someone on the other side trying to break free.
But when the man opens the door, there is no one around.
The video has been upvoted more than 2,000 times in a matter of hours after being posted by user vanillabear24399.
“Guys I’m seriously freaking out,” he explained in the caption. “I don’t know what’s going on, weird things happen in my parent’s house all the time but this is the most severe.”
Viewers soon flocked to the comments section to voice their suggestions about what caused the horror movie scenes.
“Until someone can truly debunk this, this is actually scary as hell,” one wrote.
Another commented: “I’m naturally a very rational person and 90% of the stuff on Reddit just seem like straight-up rubbish.
“This is one of the few where I seriously question what’s going on. Especially because the dog looked distressed and he can’t play that.”
Many others jumped to suggest it was proof of “ghosts” and “paranormal activity” with a spooked viewer asking: “What if it was a ghost wanting to come inside from the basement but couldn’t and you opened it allowing them free reign?”
But, as with all spooky videos, there were some sceptics.
“Your air vents aren’t properly done,” one said. “Air is being pulled out of the basement faster than it is replenished.
“As air flows around the door cracks turbulence is created behind the door, sucking it back and releasing it once the door pulls back and creates more airflow.”
And others believed the clip had been altered to overlay the sound of rattling.
