Man Utd and Real Madrid in Sergio Reguilon transfer standoff with demand made to Woodward

Manchester United and Real Madrid have reportedly been negotiating a deal to take defender Sergio Reguilon to Old Trafford but Ed Woodward has slammed the brakes on the deal after being asked to include a buy-back clause.

Real are willing to let the left-back leave for a reasonable £27million.

Reguilon spent last season on loan with Europa League champions Sevilla but is third in the Bernabeu pecking order.

Ferland Mendy and Marcelo are ahead of Reguilon in Zinedine Zidane’s mind but he does not want to make the mistake of letting a potential future star completely escape his grasp.

Reguilon showed he can handle the heat on the biggest stages as he impressed in Europe, including in Sevilla’s 2-1 semi-final win over United.

He has attracted interest from many top clubs but the Red Devils are thought to be leading the race for his signature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to have doubts over Luke Shaw’s long-term reliability and youngster Brandon William is still learning the ropes.

The Norwegian was hoping to make Reguilon his second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

However, the Mirror claims Woodward is not happy with Real’s demand to include a buy-back option.

Los Blancos want to be able to re-sign the 23-year-old for around the same price.

“I have no idea, I have to assess all the options that we have on the table.”

This is not the first time Real have forced such a clause to be included in a departing player’s deal.

They did likewise when Bayer Leverkusen signed Dani Carvajal in 2013 and re-signing the full-back a year later.
