Firefighters are tackling a huge blaze that has broken out near a shopping centre in the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester. Five fire engines are currently at the scene.

Water is being pumped from an aerial platform in an attempt to extinguish the fire.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters were called at 9:48pm (GMT).

In a tweet, they wrote: “Our crews are currently tackling a commercial building fire on Bradstone Road in Cheetham Hill.

“Please stay away from the area.”

It is not yet known if there are any injuries resulting from the blaze.

Images shared on social media show thick dark clouds sweeping across the shopping centre and across central parts of Manchester city centre.

The fire is thought to have broken out just before 10pm on Bradstone Road.

An industrial estate on Bradstone Road is thought to be where the fire started, across the road from Manchester Fort.
