Mark Eden discusses his time on Corrie in classic interview

British actor Mark Eden died in the early hours on New Year’s Day, his agent confirmed. It was revealed he had been living with Alzheimer’s disease for “some time”.

“We are very sad to announce the death of actor Mark Eden,” his agent confirmed in a statement.

“He died peacefully, in hospital, earlier today, January 1, 2021. Mark had been living with Alzheimer’s disease for some time, and was hospitalised in November.

“Mark, 92, had a long career spanning more than 50 years, including eight years in Coronation Street as character Alan Bradley.”

His agent added: “He is survived by his wife Sue, his daughter Polly, his stepson Paul and grand-daughter Emma. We ask that their privacy be respected at this very difficult time.”

Mark had been hospitalised in November last year following his battle with Alzheimer’s.

The actor starred in Coronation Street but also appeared in the Doctor Who series Marco Polo.

Tributes have been pouring in for Mark following the sad news, with many people offering their condolences.

One fan wrote: “So sad. Another legend gone. RIP #Alanbradley #markeden.”

“Such sad news. R.I.P Mark Eden thank you for Alan Bradley thinking of his family and friends at this sad time #Corrie,” another person penned.

A third wrote: “What horrible news. Sending so much love to Sue, their family and friends and everyone at @itvcorrie. He played such a fantastic chilling baddie.”

Mark was born in 1928 and fell in love with acting and the stage thanks to Shakespeare.

His showbiz career rose to prominence in 1958 when he had a minor role in Quatermass and the Pit, before going on the star TV series The Avengers, Doctor Who and Doctors.

He also appeared on the big screen, with credits including Doctor Zhivago, Heaven’s Above and Richard’s Things.

Mark’s most notable role came in ITV soap Coronation Street, making his first appearance on the cobbles in 1981.

The actor left the show in eight years later after appearing in more than 200 episodes.

The actor’s character Alan Bradley was killed by a tram in a freak accident in Coronation Street.

During his time on the soap, Mark grew close to his co-star Sue Nicholls (who played Audrey Roberts) as the pair tied the knot in 1993.

Mark is survived by his wife Sue and the couple’s two children Polly and Saul.
