Martin Lewis: How to save £350 on train tickets now before prices rise in January 2020

Martin Lewis, 47, regularly dispenses invaluable advice on saving money in the UK. The Money Saving Expert today revealed how Britons can best tackle rising train fares come 2020. Lewis appeared on the ITV’s The Martin Lewis Money Show to discuss rail tickets.

Martin Lewis cautioned that next year train travellers will see prices hiked.

“A quick warning that rail fares are due to go up by an average 2.7 percent on 2 January,” the money expert explained.

“Now, while there are normally lots of tricks for cutting the cost of train travel, it’s tough to beat the price hikes.”

“If you’re travelling after 2 January, even if you buy a ticket now, you will pay the higher price.”

However, there is one area where travellers can still save money – as long as they act quickly.

Lewis revealed the one exception to the price hike, until the 2 January, are season tickets.

These can still be bought for the lower 2019 price until the above date.
