Massive fire breaks out at Costa del Sol beach bar popular with Brits

A raging fire has broken out at a beach club in the Costa del Sol, Spain, forcing holidaymakers to flee.

The blaze started at the Purobeach club in Laguna Village near the resort town of Estepona, a popular destination for British tourists.

Flames can be seen engulfing the building as plumes of black smoke, reported to be seen as far away as Marbella, pour out of the beach club.

Employers of the club reportedly shouted “Fuera, fuera” – Spanish for “Get out, get out” – as the fire took hold.

At least 30 firefighters helped to tackle the blaze

One man, a British tourist who filmed the blaze, said “that’s the end of Purobeach everybody,” as flames flickered behind him.

Governors activated emergency level number one as the fire took hold, deploying at least 30 firefighters.

A spokesman confirmed: “Level One of the Emergency Forest Fire plan has been activated because of a fire in Estepona.”

Three helicopters were also involved in the operation, and at one point fire could be seen taking hold of a tiki bar.

Authorities have reported no immediate human casualties, and took the decision to close a nearby dual-carriageway to ensure safety.

A Spanish tourist could be heard shouting, “my God, how awful,” in footage shared to social media.

The extent of the damage is not yet clear but photos circulating on social media appear to show the of Laguna Village in flames.

Laguna Beach is home to to Purobeach Marbella and beach clubs Camuri and Claro, a VIP car washing service and several real estate offices.

Local reports said the flames had reached the five-star Kempinski Hotel next to Laguna Village, although this has not been confirmed.

The blaze occurred just over a week after a trendy Costa del Sol hotel popular with British revellers went up in flames.
