McDonald’s drive-thru mistake could see motorists fined £1,000 and lose their licence

If using your phone is considered to have put yourself or other road users at risk, police officers could charge motorists with driving without due care and attention.

This could see fines increase to £2,500 or even £5,000 if a dangerous driving charge is issued.

Previously, the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has claimed the offence may not apply if a phone is used in a slow drive-thru lane.

They say the law should apply when a motorist is on a road meaning an offence may not be committed if a driver is off the main network.
