Mike Tyson has called out Anthony Joshua, saying the chance to fight the heavyweight champion for charity would be “mind-blowing”.
Tyson, 54, has got himself in excellent shape ready for a comeback bout against Roy Jones Jr, scheduled for November.
It will be Tyson’s first fight since 2006 – but the former undisputed champion still has his brutal power and speed, as showcased in a series of training videos posted on social media.
Another former world champ, Shannon Briggs has also expressed his interest in fighting Tyson, offering to replace Jones should he decide to pull out of their scheduled exhibition bout.
But while Jones is three years younger than Tyson and Briggs is six years his junior, Iron Mike says he’s prepared to fight a boxer in the prime of their career.
In an interview with iFL TV, Tyson was asked if could see himself fighting a current heavyweight.
And the man who still holds the record for the youngest boxer to win the heavyweight title is up for the challenge.
“If doing that means we can have bigger charity exponents, well be it, I’m down to do that too.
“This is all being done for charity, and if they’re down to do that, I’m with it too.
“It’s entertainment, it’s just for charity – it’s for a good cause, but we’re giving our best.”
It was put to Tyson that he could be offered a fight with Anthony Joshua, the reigning WBA, IBF and WBO champion.
And Tyson looked like he was relishing the chance to take on the Brit, saying: “I would love to do that. That would be mind blowing.”
Joshua is due to face mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev in December, with a fight against WBC champion Tyson Fury on the horizon next year to unify the division.
Speaking last month, Joshua said of Fury: “When the time’s right we’ll fight.
“We’re keen but I’ve got Kubrat Pulev first which is a mandatory defence, which I have to do.
“Once I get past that I’m a free agent.
“I’m going to say we’ll fight next year but everything else that comes with it, I’ve just got to put to the back of my mind and just focus on Kubrat Pulev.
“Once I get past him, hopefully Fury will be the next one in line.”
