M&S launches three new essential food boxes – full list of what’s inside

M&S launched its first first essential £35 food box last month containing essentials such as pasta, tinned food and a selection of meats. With the UK in lockdown, and many people being told that they can’t leave their home for 12 weeks, supermarkets have turned to online services to enable customers to get food.

The original box received reviews saying that it contained too many non-essentials like chocolate.

However the new options available are a mixture of fruit and vegetables, proving to be much healthier.

The three new options are the Mixed Vegetable Box (£15), the Mixed Select Vegetable Box (£17) and the Seasonal Fruit Box (£20).

Just like the original food box, M&S is telling customers exactly what they can expect in their box.

Seasonal Fruit Box:

  • Bananas (8)
  • Pineapple (1)
  • Mango (1)
  • Red Grapes (800g)
  • Soft Citrus (6)
  • Plums (6)
  • Pears (6)

All of the food boxes are delivered contact-free on a chosen delivery day, which costs £3.99.

The original box is still available to buy online.

Customers are only allowed to order one of each box, and once you’ve had one you can’t order another of the same type.

This means this is suitable for those self-isolating or in urgent need, rather than something which could be delivered regularly.

Customers who are over 70 (identified via their Sparks card) will also be given priority access to the products.

M&S says it now intends to use staff and resources from its clothing and home distribution network to help its food business.

The supermarket chain has also said that M&S Foodhalls are still open for trading and priority time slots are available for the vulnerable and key workers.

The first hour of trading on Mondays and Thursday is reserved for the elderly and vulnerable customers.

NHS staff, health and social care workers can visit stores on Tuesdays and Fridays during the first hour of trading to receive priority access.

M&S advise customers to check their local stores opening times and ensure that social distancing measures are in place.

Aldi has also announced that it is launching a home delivery service for vulnerable and self-isolating customers.

Aldi’s groceries are not usually available to purchase online and so this new initiative will help shoppers across the country.

The box includes essentials like baked beans, plum tomatoes and rice.

The parcels are available on their website and will retail at £24.99 with delivery.
