People across Hawaii have reported seeing a collection of strange lights hovering in the sky, with some bizarrely claiming it is an “alien mothership”.

Videos of the sighting from October 24 have flooded the internet, with one being shared to YouTube by conspiracy theorist MrMBB333.

The fuzzy clip shows numerous lights in a rough line formation moving across the night sky.

Some of the objects appear to be flashing and those watching from the ground are clearly perplexed by what they are.

“What is that thing?” someone behind the camera can be heard asking.

MrMBB333 said the sighting bore a resemblance to the infamous Phoenix Lights – a series of widely-sighted UFOs seen above the US states of Arizona and Nevada on March 13, 1997.

“I don’t know what we’ve got going on here but I think this is way much more than Chinese Lanterns,” he said.

“These were moving at the same speed as if they were part of something bigger.”

He also claimed to notice a red light at the front of the trail of objects and suggested the formation were part of a bigger “mothership”.

“There were multiple witnesses who saw this object move through the sky,” he added.

The video has racked up a whopping 68,000 views despite only being shared yesterday (October 25).

Several users commented that they had also seen the lights in the area.

“I live in Hawaii and saw that last night,” one said. “It was not a meteor breaking up and it was travelling along the sky. Super crazy.”

Another commented: “I live on Oahu and saw it in the sky as well it did look low like what it was, was falling to the ground.”

Some viewers were more sceptical, suggesting the sighting was in fact Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites.

But, unlike usual sightings of the satellites, the objects seen were not in a perfect line.

Local news outlet Hawaii NewsNow said they were also flooded with calls and messages about the strange moving lights – seen over Oahu.

Astronomers at the University of Hawaii’s Institute for Astronomy (UH IFA) told the site the lights may have been a result of debris from a rocket re-entry.

“We are suspicious that it is indeed the Venesat satellite reentry, as it looks like the reentry prediction is close to Hawaii, and if the rocket body made one more orbit than predicted, the location and time of what people saw would match well,” staff from UH IFA said.

“Whatever it is, it is something either man-made or a meteor grazing through the atmosphere and breaking up,” they added.
