Naga Munchetty shut down by cheeky WWII veteran: 'I can’t say a word back' 1

BBC Breakfast’s Naga wanted to find out if Captain Tom had any advice for viewers as the coronavirus pandemic continues and people struggle with the lockdown. However, she wasn’t expecting the veteran’s rather cheeky response as he admitted it was nice to be given a chance to speak.

Naga asked: “Tom, firstly I’m going to say thank you for being so kind to us this morning.

“Secondly, I’m going to ask you for some words of wisdom at this time in the morning.

“Just reading all of the things you’ve done; in the second world war you rose to the rank of captain, you’ve seen fighting in India and Burma, you were an instructor at the armoured vehicle school in Bovingdon, you’ve trained regiments in how to use tanks.

“You have lived, and you have seen some tough times in this country, can you inspire people who are watching now, just reassure them, it will be fine.”

Detailing his morning routine, he explained: “My daily routine I get up quite early and listen to Naga and Charlie when they give out their news and I’m taking aback by the appearance of both of them.

“How they can manage to look absolutely perfect – full marks both of them. They are looking so super so early in the morning.”

Tom has recovered from a broken hip and skin cancer and was full of kind words for the NHS.
