In view of his 85,000 followers, the Strictly dancer revealed he had broken his arm which forced him to miss his GCSE exams.
His comments after he retweeted a post from ITV’s This Morning, which read: “GCSE students in Northern Ireland are to be awarded the grades predicted by their teachers, Stormont’s Education Minister has announced.
“Do you think the same should be done for the rest of the UK?”
Neil agreed with the idea, as he penned: “100 per cent yes. I was unable to sit my GCSE because I broke my arm days before my exams at school and I was awarded grades predicted by my teachers.”

Fans reacted to his tweet, as people commented on the proposed plans.
One person said: “I passed out (literally) before my second GCSE maths paper. Couldn’t be allowed to sit it later (in case I was told what was on it). My grade was estimated from previous test papers and my mocks.”
Another person remarked: “My daughter is really worried about her results. I know she’ll do well in life whatever she gets, but they have those results for life and go on every job application they fill in. She’s worked so hard and I hope her results reflect that.”
“It’s fair that something should happen. It must be so heartbreaking for the students knowing that they put so much work in the last two years and then weren’t able to sit the exams,” a third person added.
Neil Jones revealed he was unable to sit his GCSE exams
Neil’s comments come after UK ministers are facing mounting pressure to resolve the exam grades crisis, with just days to go before GCSE results are published on Thursday.
They face calls to delay the results, change the grading algorithm or use the grades estimated by teachers, after complaints of unfair A-level results.
It comes as Northern Ireland said it would use teacher-assessed estimates for GCSE results this week.
Students across the UK were not able to sit exams as normal this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Neil Jones and Katya Jones announced their split last year
Over the weekend, students protested against the exam grading system outside the Department for Education in London.
Elsewhere, Neil recently confirmed some big news away from Strictly Come Dancing.
The Latin champion – who split from his BBC co-star and wife Katya Jones in 2019 – has since revealed he is no longer single.
The announcement comes after he took part in a Q&A session on Instagram when a fan quizzed: “Are you still single?”
While Neil did not reveal too many details, he responded to the query saying: “Nope.”
The Strictly pro and Katya wed back in August 2013 after five years of dating but officially separated in 2019.
The pair called it quits 10 months after she was pictured kissing her former dance partner Seann Walsh during a night out in London – which the pair later apologised for.
Speaking about their relationship now, Katya gushed over Neil, saying: “We’re like best friends really.”
