Nintendo has announced plans to release a free game trial for a limited time.
Nintendo Switch owners can currently download the Splatoon 2 Special Demo for free by visiting the Nintendo eShop.
While fans can pre-load now, the Splatoon 2 Special Demo has an April 30 release date and an 11am BST start time for fans living in the UK.
The limited time game trial comes to an end a week later at 11pm on May 6.
And don’t worry about being able to play online, because Nintendo is even giving away seven day free trials for Switch Online.
“During the demo event, players will be able to jump online and splat it out in 4-on-4 Turf War battles with friends and other players who own the full game,” Nintendo explains.
“Players can also try out Ranked Battles and the Salmon Run co-op mode.
“Not only will players have the chance to splat their hearts out during the demo period, they can also activate a seven-day free trial for Nintendo Switch Online.
“To activate the free trial, players should visit Nintendo eShop on their Nintendo Switch console and go to the ‘Nintendo Switch Online’ section to get started.”
Fans who enjoy the Splatoon 2 Special Demo can pick up the full game at a discounted price.
From now until May 10, Splatoon 2 is available with a 33% discount from the Nintendo eShop.
As Nintendo points out, any progress made during the trial will carry over to the full release.
“The progress players make during the demo event will even carry over to the full game, once purchased,” Nintendo continues.
“Players can also save 25% on the Splatoon 2 + Octo Expansion digital bundle. And until May 10, Splatoon fans can save 33% on all Splatoon phone cases from the Nintendo Official UK Store while stocks last.”
In other Splatoon 2 news, Nintendo is bringing back the original Splatfest team battle later in May.
On May 23, Splatoon 2 fans can duke it out to decide the winner between Mayo and Ketchup.
“We’re revisiting the clash of the condiments for a bonus Mayo vs. Ketchup Splatfest!
“And just as a reminder, Team Mayo took the crown the first time. We’ll see if Team Ketchup can ketch-up this time around!”
