North Korean soldiers open fire on South Koreans sparking total war fears 1

South Korea responded by firing two shots back. No casualties have been reported. The statement added: “We are taking actions via inter-Korean communication lines to grasp the detailed situation and to prevent any further incidents.

This led to speculation that the leader had died from botched heart surgery, or was vegetative.

South Korea has maintained they believe he is alive and well in the port town of Wonsan.

However, on Friday state media reported Kim attended the opening ceremony of the Sunchon Phosphatic Fertilizer Factory.

Korean Central News Agency claimed Kim was joined by his sister Kim Yo Jong.

The youngest child of their father, Kim Jong-il, Ms Kim was reported to be the figure lined up to replace her brother if he died.

Ms Kim is the deputy director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

Both are believed to have been educated using aliases in Switzerland.

The Workers’ Party controls a national front which all parties must be part of to run in elections whilst the state also controls the news media.
