OnePlus battery life problems could be a thing of the past, thanks to new feature 1

OnePlus spearheaded the fast wired charging movement with the debut on Dash Charging on the OnePlus 3. Since then, the plucky Shenzhen-based tech company has been working to increase the rapid pace at which its devices recharge. With the launch of the OnePlus 7T series, the firm unveiled its fastest charging ever – Warp Charge 30T – that promises to refill the device from empty to 70 percent in just 30 minutes. Impressive, right?

OnePlus isn’t just focused on accelerating its wired charging speeds though, it also wants to make sure your device’s battery health remains in good condition for as long as you own it. In a recent blog post, OnePlus announced a new feature dubbed “Optimized Charging” that aims to reduce the amount of time your phone remains charging at 100 percent in order to increase its lifespan.

Essentially, the new functionality uses AI to detect when you’re likely to take your phone off charge. At first, the device will only be refilled to 80 percent and it’s only in the 100 minutes before you’re expected to unplug it that the remaining juice will be delivered.

OnePlus says it’ll use data from a user’s sleep cycle to analyse when you regularly wake up to make sure the feature works as optimally as possible. The Chinese tech giant also declared it’s working to accommodate for weekends where you might attend a glitzy night out or two and might put your device on charge later.

Introducing the new feature, OnePlus said: “Recently, we have been working on a new feature named Optimized Charging, which is designed to defer the battery drain rate optimally without affecting the user experience.

“The battery will be charged to 80 percent initially and suspend temporarily by using our ‘user sleep cycle detection’ function. Your phone will start charging 100 minutes before your daily wake up time, first alarm or first event to 100 percent level.

“This means it will stay at around 80 percent for most of the night, even though it is connected to the charger the whole time. The OnePlus will then finish charging and should hit 100 percent just as you take it off the charger to get on with your day. After a few weeks, it will learn that you consistently wake up and take your OnePlus off charge at 8 AM, for example.”

Enabling the feature is simple. All you need to do is head to Settings > Battery and then ensure Optimized Charging is switched on. That’ll then kickstart the device’s analysis of your behaviours to help extend the overall life of your cell.
