At 24, the fast-rising British actress’s future appears guaranteed to be golden… and tonight she aims to outshine some of the biggest names in the world.
The Oxford-born star will walk the Oscar red carpet for the first time in her fledgling career after landing a best supporting nomination for her performance as Amy in the period drama Little Women.
Florence, who stepped out on Friday night at a pre Academy Awards party with her boyfriend – actor Zach Braff, 44 – was clearly excited about her coming big night.
She said: “I’m going to have to stay so composed during the ceremony, sitting alongside so many idols of mine.
“I might have to go somewhere quiet later on for a walk alone so I can scream for a second and let it all out.”
The actress came to fame in John Le Carre’s BBC drama Little Drummer Girl. She is now set to star alongside Scarlett Johansson in superhero blockbuster Black Widow – due to hit cinemas in May – and is facing fierce opposition in her bid tonight.
Ironically, one of her rivals for an Oscar is Scarlett for her role in Jojo Rabbit. The others are veteran Kathy Bates for Richard Jewell, Margot Robbie for Bombshell and Laura Dern for Marriage Story.
Florence ducked questions about her choice of outfit for her red carpet walk tonight as she left Friday night’s pre-Oscar event wearing a stunning off-the-shoulder mustard-yellow mini dress with black heels and her hair swept back into a stylish bun. She seemed delighted when Scrubs star, director and screenwriter Zach opened the car door for her as they left the party.
The couple have come under fire from internet trolls because of their age difference, but Zach has hit back: “They can say what they want. They won’t change a thing.”
