The wait is over – the film industry has finally heard who will compete for the most coveted award – the Oscar nominees have been announced. This morning in Los Angeles stars John Cho and Issa Rae took to the podium to make or break the lives of filmmakers worldwide. But who made the list of contenders to find out their fate at the ceremony on February 9?
The Golden Globes winner Joaquin Phoenix wa again triumphant in gaining a nomination for The Oscars for Best Actor.
Among the women, Renee Zellweger has again earned a nomination for her portrayal of the legendary Judy Garland, while she is up against Saoirse Ronan in the Irish actor’s third nomination in this category.
Of course, many will remember Zellweger has already bagged an Oscar for her work in Cold Mountain, though this will be the first win in the leading category if she wins.
In supporting roles, we are seeing some familiar faces yet again with Laura Dern among nominees, while Marriage Story and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will compete for the top award of the night – Best Film.
Other Best Film nominees have already been seen at events such as the Golden Globes, with Sam Mendes’ 1917 and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman vying for the same title.
