Outrage as Lily Allen says Rule Britannia should be BANNED 1

The outspoken mother-of-two took to Instagram to share her thoughts with her 1.3million followers where she appeared angered at the lyrics of the 1740 anthem. The 34-year-old said: “I think we should not read this song anymore.” She then uploaded a separate post with he lyrics attached that read: “Sorry what? Britannia rule the waves… Britons never, never, never shall be slaves. The nations, not so blest as thee, Must in their turn, to tyrants fall, while thous shalt flourish, shalt flourish great and free. The dread and envy of them all.”

The post sparked outrage on social media.

One commenter said: “If it wasn’t for the brave men and women of that generation we would be German talking slaves… most of us wouldn’t be here now talking so freely without the horrible things that go on the world to assure our freedom….

“All this soft attitude will be irrelevant if a world war kicked off again, you’d all be depending the the people willing to do the dirt so you all can sit back and cry about pointless things… on another note have we left the EU yet.”

Provoking anger from the follower, the singer replied: “Which generation are we talking about?”

Another commenter chipped in and replied “any and every generation that’s fought a war… it’s Remembrance Day for all those that have served.”

Lily also suggested the nation should sing her debut track Smile instead.

Meanwhile, the singer returned to the UK earlier this month, days after vowing not to come back until Brexit is sorted out.

The Smile hitmaker had told her social media followers she was going to stay in America for a little while longer.

Taking to Twitter on 11 October, she wrote alongside a video: “Leaving UK till after Brexit. Good Luck Kids.

“Also what’s the most annoying engagement baiting question caption you’ve read? LMK in the comments.”

But the songstress arrived back last week and uploaded a picture of her boarding pass to Instagram.

Lily has been in New York enjoying her time with boyfriend, Stranger Things actor, David Harbour.

They spent Halloween together and shared snaps to they’re respective Instagram accounts.
