Paradox Cup rescheduled amid big changes to Cash Cups

Fortnite’s Platform Cups are undergoing some structural changes this season

Between a mix of technical errors and planned changes, we need to go over some important details regarding tournament play moving forward

Region lock

Last season, Fortnite restricted the use of alt accounts to participate in tournaments that you weren’t doing well in at the beginning. Players using this workaround received a metaphorical “reset button” for when they got off to a bad start on their main account

Moving forward, players will have to deal with yet another cash cup restriction. As of today, you can only compete in one region for each platform cash cup

With streamers like EmadGG who often broadcast themselves playing in 5 regions in a back to back to back to back to back 15 hour livestream, this is going to have a huge effect

While players that can only play in one region appreciate the less competitive player base in their event, top content creators will have less… content to put out to their loyal audiences. “That’s gonna be so boring lol why do u guys keep going backwards,” Emad responded on Twitter

Europe start time

European Cash Cups are going to start an hour later as of today. Fortnite’s competitive Twitter page reported the change earlier today:

Many players that have extracurricular activities are going to be happy to see events start at 6PM. With school usually getting out at 3 and afterschool activities going well past 5 in some cases, a sizable percentage of the younger community wouldn’t be able to participate in the full event

The most recent development to the weekly Cash Cups is a full overhaul of the Paradox Cash cup that was supposed to happen today. After massive technical errors on the European region, the entire event for all major regions were delayed

Europe will host the Paradox Cup on Friday, 9/18. NA-East, NA-West, and Brazil will all move to the day after, Saturday the 19th. Check the in-game tab to see when the event will start in your local time

Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East already completed the Paradox Cash Cup before any errors started; they will not be getting an extra Cash Cup

Bottom line

Overall, a mix of planned changes and unforeseen errors made for an announcement-filled Monday from Epic’s end. While the actual changes come in mixed degrees of popularity, knowing the schedule moving forward will prepare you for the eventful season of competition

Good luck!
