Former Strictly Come Dancing professional AJ Pritchard, 25, has revealed he would “love” to see Phillip Schofield, 58, sign up to the show as part of its first same-sex couple. AJ, who quit the BBC dance competition earlier this year, praised the presenter’s dance skills after seeing him have “a bit of a boogie” on This Morning with his co-host Holly Willoughby, 39.
It comes after Phillip came out as gay on the ITV show back in February and Strictly are reportedly considering adding two same-sex pairings with male and female couples to the line-up in a landmark change.
AJ said: “I think Philip Schofield would be great on Strictly.
“He got up on This Morning once with Holly and did a bit of a boogie and he can dance, and he is entertaining, and he is such a nice guy.
“To see him learn and put him under a bit of pressure would always be funny, I’m sure.”
Phillip Schofield tipped for Strictly’s first same-sex couple by pro
AJ Pritchard said he would ‘love’ Phillip Schofield to sign up to Strictly
“It would be great if he was part of the first same sex couple on Strictly – I would love to see that,” the dancer added.
Express.co.uk has contacted representatives for Phillip for comment.
However, AJ also divulged that he believes some of his former co-stars would be less enthused to dance with a member of the same sex due to Ballroom and Latin dance traditions.
He explained: “I know certain pro dancers would like to dance with a woman because that is what tradition is, and it kind of makes sense but it is very much down to someone’s personal opinion of what Ballroom and Latin dancing actually is.

Phillip Schofield thanked his wife and daughters for their support after he came out as gay
“My view is, for example with Ballroom and Latin, they do same sex competitions for under 12s and there are usually more girls than boys who want to dance and so there would be all-girl partnerships.”
AJ continued during an interview with The Sun: “For me dancing isn’t about the sex, it’s just about two people dancing and performing together and telling the story – it doesn’t matter if it’s two men or two women.
“It is just about dancing and telling the story – why would sex get in the way of that?”
ITV’s Dancing On Ice became the first prime time talent show to feature a same sex couple earlier this year.

Ian Watkins, better known as H from Steps, was paired with pro skater Matt Evers on the programme.
It has also been reported that Strictly pro Johannes Radebe will make history on the BBC series by becoming the first male professional to dance with a celebrity partner of the same sex this year.
Phillip previously praised his family for their “strength” in a lengthy social media statement in which he opened up about his sexuality for the first time.
It read: “With the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.
“This is something that has caused many heart-breaking conversations at home.
“I have been married to Steph for nearly 27 years, and we have two beautiful grown-up daughters, Molly and Ruby.”
He added: “My family have held me so close: they have tried to cheer me up, to smother me with kindness and love, despite their own confusion.
“Yet I still can’t sleep and there have been some very dark moments.”
