The acid tongued-presenter co-hosted the morning programme with Susanna Reid but ended up in a fiery debate after he refused to let his fellow co-star run down the new government guidelines in regards to lockdown easing.
Piers Morgan has been vocal about his disdain for the government’s handling of the Covid-19 outbreak as well as condemning MPs for refusing to appear on the show in order to talk about the pandemic.
The 58-year-old clashed with Susanna as he prevented her from talking about the statement, and decided to put his fingers in his ears.
He was quickly met with criticism, with one viewer writing: “Whoa Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain today. Yes, you are right to challenge the government the way you have and I support that and but please do not ever shout down your brilliant other half Susanna Reid.”
Following the airing of GMB, Piers promptly took to Twitter to set the record straight.
He wrote: “I didn’t agree with us being compelled to read out a statement by a Govt that’s been boycotting us for 56 days, so tried to stop it happening.
“No apology, I’ll do the same if it happens again – so long as this absurd boycott lasts.”
After Piers refused to say sorry, a social media user branded the star “disrespectful” towards Susanna.
They fumed: “You have no respect for Susanna Reid by doing this Piers Morgan as Susanna just wanted to do her job. A lack of class and respect for your colleague.”
However, Piers hit back at the remark, and replied: “I have tremendous respect for Susanna, she’s a brilliant journalist.
“I just didn’t want us to be forced to read out that Govt statement when they’re boycotting us.”
Good Morning Britain airs at 6am weekdays on ITV
