Pokemon Go is about to go offline for a major period of server maintenance.
The popular augmented reality app will be taken down for maintenance at 7pm BST on June 1. The Pokemon Go servers will come back online at 2am UK time on June 2.
It’s more inconvenient for US fans, who won’t be able to login and play from 11am PDT until 6pm PDT.
The news was announced by Niantic on Twitter: “Trainers, Pokemon GO will be experiencing global downtime for seven hours on Monday, June 1, 2020.
“From around 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. PDT, the game will be undergoing server maintenance and will be inaccessible to all Trainers. We apologise for any inconvenience that this might cause.”
The game hasn’t experienced such a lengthy period of downtime since it launched back in 2016.
It’s unclear why the game needs such a lengthy period of server maintenance, although the global pandemic has resulted in a much different in-game experience.
Niantic has tweaked the Pokemon Go gameplay to make it easier to play from home.
This includes the ability to participate in Raids against powerful Pokemon from the comfort of your home.
Fans can also send and receive more Gifts, while bonus Field Research is available without having to spin a PokeStop.
Community Day events have also been extended, lasting for six hours instead of the regular three hours.
Niantic has also just announced plans to hold a virtual Pokemon Go Fest in July.
Running for the weekend of July 25 and July 26, the global event will feature unique Pokemon encounters, new Special Research tasks and lots more.
“While we’ll miss the traditional congregation of Pokemon GO fans, we’re thrilled to bring a special Pokemon GO Fest experience to Trainers,” Niantic explains.
“Not only are you in for an exciting weekend of bonuses, Pokemon encounters, and Special Research, there will also be exciting ways to connect with other Trainers and experience other fun surprises throughout the entire summer.
“Be sure to check the Niantic blog and the Pokemon GO Fest website for more updates in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to share them all with you. Until we can all meet again in the same park and under the same sky—let’s GO!”
As for the server downtime, there’s always a chance it will end early, so check back later for all the latest updates.
