A police appeal has attracted more than a thousand comments after a suspect was said to look like something from 70s horror classic The Exorcist .
Police Scotland released fresh CCTV images on Sunday of a woman they wish to speak in connection with an alleged late-night assault outside a pub in West Dunbartonshire.
The attack took place outside the Burgh Bar in Dumbarton High Street last September leaving a woman, who was not named, needing hospital treatment.
The post, which appeared on Argyll & West Dunbartonshire’s Police Division’s Facebook page, received more than 1,300 comments in just 24 hours because of the suspect’s spooky likeness to Hollywood child star Linda Blair.
It was also shared over 670 times, with dozens of comparisons being made to the cult classic supernatural horror film centred around a child character possessed by the Devil.
People seemed quick to make the comparison, with one man asking straight off “Is that no the bird from the exorcist?”
Another commented: “Have you tried summoning her?”
“Exorcist actress gone walkabout????” added a third.
“I think it’s the Ghostbusters you need to call…” someone else added.
In the film possessed 12-year-old Regan performs some bizarre, vulgar acts including vomiting green liquid, turning her head 360 degrees and floating in the air as priests try to summon the Devil out of her.
Drawing a direct comparison one person commented: “Awww, her. Yeah, I’ve seen her a lot. Especially in my nightmares, she’s usually standing at the end of my bed.”
“Pretty sure her names Regan and she spits out pea soup if a cross comes near her!” another added.
Another joked: “The power of Christ compels you”.
“Was the pre or post exorcism?I either recognise her from the exorcist or Shrek… either way I pray if I ever see her it’s in the day time!!! In all seriousness is this a genuine post? This cannot be a real” someone else quipped.
A man claiming to be the victim’s mum even saw the funny side.
He said: “Been reading some of these comments really have made me giggle but on a more serious note the victim to this horrible attack was my 65 year old mum and it was shocking what happened to her, so if anyone with information please ring the numbers above thank you.”
Others thought she looked more like something out of another horror classic.
A man said: “What is the point of CCTV footage, that looks like the burd that floats in front of the window in the “Evil Dead” … #UselessShe might have crawled back into a TV (42in Bush)”
A spokesperson for the Argyll and West Dunbartonshire police division are still appealing for information.
“Police Scotland has released images of a woman they wish to speak to as they believe she may be able to assist with their enquiries in respect of an assault which took place outside of the Burgh bar public house in High Street, Dumbarton on Sunday 1 September 2019 around 1.05am.”
“As a result of this incident, a woman required hospital treatment.”
