A New York Police Department (NYPD) police officer who danced in tiny shorts, cowboy boots and her police uniform for a TikTok video is under investigation over the stunt.
Christine Galgano, a NYPD officer, posted a video of herself dancing in a parody video of Lt Dangel from Comedy Central show Reno 911.
The 27-year-old was wearing short shorts and cowboy boots in the clip, along with her police uniform, which violates NYPD social media police.
NYPD bans officers from sharing photos or videos of themselves in uniform as anything posted to their private social media account “is a reflection on the Department as a whole”.
NYPD senior officials got wind of the TikTok post, according to the New York Post, and an investigation was launched into the video.
An NYPD spokesperson told the Post: “The off duty incident was investigated and addressed by the officer’s commanding officer.”
The video has since been deleted and the police department have not said whether they will discipline Galgano over the social media video.
Fans of the cop defended the star, and said an officer having fun in uniform is the least of the NYPD’s worries, citing the recent riots in the US.
There has been unrest across the country following the George Floyd’s death in police custody – Black Lives Matter has organised protests in cities including New York.
One Twitter user said: “Appears to be the absolute best thing about the NYPD. Best press they’ve had in years.”
Galgano has a significant social media fan base, with more than 13,000 followers on Instagram, and several hundred on Twitter.
