Meghan Markle joined the Royal Family in May 2018 when she said “I do” to Prince Harry. Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a shocking announcement informing the world that they will be “stepping back” from their roles as “senior” members of the Royal Family, declaring that they wish to move towards being “financially independent”. How much money do they have in the bank?
It continued: “This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.
“We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”
In the announcement, the couple revealed they would try to become “financially independent”.
Their website said: “Since the establishment of The Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 95 percent of the funding received for their Office expenditure is derived from income allocated by HRH The Prince of Wales, generated through the Duchy of Cornwall.
“This provision has been in place since Prince William and Prince Harry first established their offices in support of The Queen, and is the responsibility of The Prince of Wales.”
The website also explained the couple intended to stay in Frogmore Cottage, Windsor, “with the permission of Her Majesty The Queen”.
The Queen owns the property, however, Meghan and Harry have stated they hope to carry on retaining the recently refurbished property “so that their family will always have a place to call home in the United Kingdom”.
Since the announcement, the Queen released her own follow up statement to address Meghan and Harry’s decision.
The statement which was released on 13 January read: “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.
“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.
