PS5 and Xbox Series X game reveals coming thick and fast 1

It looks like another PS4 and Xbox One game may be ported over to the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

With the next-gen consoles both pencilled in for a late 2020 release, new game reveals are starting to come thick and fast.

The latest rumours come courtesy of Doom Eternal director Marty Stratton, who recently suggested that the upcoming shooter would be a logical fit for the next-gen.

In a fascinating interview with Metro, Stratton said that while nothing was set in stone, the next-gen consoles provide an exciting opportunity.

Asked about Doom Eternal on next-gen, Stratton said: “We haven’t talked about it yet but one of the exciting things is we’re at the end of this console cycle, where our team knows this tech really, really well.

“So it really allowed us to push and get the most out of this hardware. And I’m super excited about what it means for the next hardware.

“So we haven’t announced anything, but it’s really exciting. They’re doing some really awesome stuff with that hardware so I think it’s logical that we would push onto that and honestly try to be one of the best games on that platform as well.”

With both consoles seemingly supporting backwards compatibility, Doom Eternal should at least be playable on the next-gen, although hopefully we’ll see a dedicated port with some upgrades.

In the meantime, Doom Eternal has a March 20 release date on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

A sequel to the 2016 Doom reboot, Eternal sees players return to Earth in order to stave off a demonic invasion.

“As the DOOM Slayer you return to find Earth has suffered a demonic invasion,” reads the official description. “RAZE HELL and discover the Slayer’s origins and his enduring mission to rip and tear…until it is done.

“Experience the ultimate combination of speed and power as you battle your way across dimensions with the next leap in push-forward, first-person combat.”

Express Online was lucky enough to play some Doom Eternal at a preview event in 2019.
