The PS5 vs Xbox Series X battle has already been one of the major gaming talking points of this year, and is showing no signs of letting up. From talk of teraflops to SSD speeds, PlayStation and Xbox fans have been trying to piece together evidence to show which system could end up top next-gen. Until recently we only got a glimpse of what the upcoming wave of consoles are capable of on paper.

But earlier this week we got to see the first true showcase of the next-gen’s power when the first ever PS5 gameplay footage was unveiled.

A tech demo showing the upcoming Unreal Engine 5 running on a PlayStation 5 dev kit was revealed during a Summer Game Fest stream on Wednesday May 13.

And from the looks of it the PS5 will be capable of visuals on par with the kind of special effects you’d expect to see in the latest Marvel or Hollywood blockbuster.

Epic promised that devs using Unreal 5 will be able to create environments using millions or billions of polygons.

The end result of that is it will move graphics closer to photorealism than we’ve ever been before, which is a tantalising prospect for the next-gen.

The PS5 tech demo will surely only build hype further for what gamers can expect from the next wave of consoles.

So far we’ve only been told that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have a release window of holiday 2020.

But now we could have got a better idea of when the new systems from Microsoft and Sony will be hitting the shelves.

A new leak may have dropped the ball about when Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which is coming to the PS5 and Series X, will launch.

As reported on in a post by GamingBolt, Amazon Italy briefly listed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as having an October 15 release date.

This was quickly updated and now has a placeholder for December 31, but this slip could be telling.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was put front and centre of the recent Xbox Series X third-party games reveal stream.

So it could possibly be a launch title for the Xbox Series X and / or the PS5.

If that’s the case then we could see the next-gen consoles arrive around the October 15 date Amazon listed for the Valhalla.

That is one possibility – the other being the new Assassin’s Creed game may launch on current consoles first before arriving on the PS5 and Xbox Series X later on.

The latest leak comes after earlier this week Sony reportedly posted a new job listing which said the PS5 will have a release date in October 2020.

The PlayStation makers later said that the release window mentioned in the job ad was a mistake made by a recruitment company.

While earlier this year Microsoft had to retract that the Xbox Series X was launching this Thanksgiving.

The retraction came after an Xbox Series X website went live saying the console will be released on Thanksgiving 2020, which is Thursday November 26.
