Samsung Galaxy Buds+ have one massive advantage over AirPods Pro (and one disadvantage) 1

The South Korean company has taken a very different approach to its Californian cousins with its second-generation ‘buds, which are called Galaxy Buds+. Rather than adding active noise cancellation – as Apple did with its AirPods Pro – Samsung has decided to double-down on battery life.

While the original Galaxy Buds, which launched alongside the Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, S10 5G, and Galaxy Fold in mid-February last year, lasted around 6 hours of listening to music in your ear, the second-generation ‘buds almost double this. The new headphones can last 11 hours on-the-go between charges.

Just like the previous generation, popping them back in the carry case will top-up the battery in each earbud. The carry case also supports Qi wireless charging, so any charging mats you have lying around for your smartphone will work perfectly with the Galaxy Buds+. The charge case adds an extra 11 hours battery to each ‘buds, so you’ll leave the house with two full charges – or 22 hours worth of wireless listening with the Buds+.

If you’d prefer to use a wired connection, the case can be recharged via USB-C – the same port that features on the latest slate of smartphones announced by Samsung.

Galaxy Buds+ ship with a variety of different tips to ensure the earbuds fit snugly into your ears. Samsung hopes this will create a strong seal inside your ear and help you forget about the missing active noise-cancellation, which improves your listening experience by cancelling out any background or ambient noise.

Whether the draw of a huge amount of battery life – for those who enjoy endurance runs, or want to be able to walk around the office with a single earbud ready and waiting for the next call – is enough to tempt people away from the noise-cancelling of the AirPods Pro remains to be seen.

And with the previous pair, with Samsung Galaxy Buds+, you can immerse yourself in your favourite music and podcasts. Sound by AKG, Buds+ feature 2-way speaker as well as 3 mics for “unparalleled sound and voice quality,” Samsung says.

Buds+ app, ‘Galaxy Buds+’, is now iOS compatible, so you can enjoy a great audio experience no matter which device you use.12 And with the Spotify partnership, listen to the tunes and podcasts you love more easily by hitting play with a single press.
