Sheffied fire: A huge fire erupted at a waste management site
At least six fire crews were called to a fire at a waste management site on Parkwood Road, Sheffield at 9.50pm last night. A large amount of waste material was involved, according to South Yorkshire Fire. Due to the thick smoke and huge flames, people were being advised to keep their doors and windows closed until the smoke cleared.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Six fire engines have been called out to a large fire at a waste managent site in Sheffield at 9.50pm on Thursday evening on Parkwood Road.
“Firefighters from Parkway, Central, Elm Lane, Tankersley, Aston Park and Barnsley stations are at the incident at Arthurs Skip Hire & Waste Management.
“Several piles of waste are on fire.
“Firefighters are using hose reels to tackle the blaze.
Sheffield fire: The cause of the fire is under investigation
“There is a lot of smoke in the area so residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed until the smoke has cleared.
“Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for several hours.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once it is completely out.”

Sheffield fire: Residents watched in horror at the blaze
One person said: “The big fire in Sheffield is still burning… hope everyone is fine.”
Another person added that he could “smell the fire”.
A third person also shared their concern.
They wrote: “There is a big old fire in Sheffield.

Somebody else said: “Serious fire in Sheffield tonight.
“It’s sending thick plumes of black smoke over the city.”
DPAC Sheffield also tweeted: “There’s a FIRE in town/neepsend area if you look out that way you can see a massive black cloud of smoke.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
