Silent Hill: More proof emerges Hideo Kojima could be making much demanded sequel 1

Silent Hill is one of the most iconic gaming franchises, helping to define what survival horror is alongside Resident Evil back in the 90s. But since the heady days of the PS1 and PS2 era when Silent Hill was at the peak of its powers, the series seemingly lost its way for awhile. A slew of disappointing releases saw Silent Hill lose a bit of its lustre before Hideo Kojima rebooted the franchise with PT.

A teaser of Kojima’s vision for Silent Hill, PT was one of the first must-play experiences on the PS4 – despite its very brief runtime.

PT was a teaser for the planned Silent Hills game, and was set to star Norman Reedus and involve Guillermo del Toro.

Sadly, as we all know now, Kojima and Konami’s split led to the PT project being scrapped with the MGS mastermind going on to create Death Stranding.

Both Reedus and del Toro went on to work with Kojima-san on Death Stranding.

But since the Metal Gear visionary finished work on Death Stranding there have been murmurs he could be returning to make a Silent Hill game.

In December an alleged leak emerged which said Kojima was in talks with Konami to work on a new Silent Hill game.

It was claimed that Konami will lend the Silent Hill IP to Kojima Productions while a third party will fund the project’s development.

According to the Redditor the deal has now been “settled”, and Kojima has been teasing his next game is a horror project.

On Twitter last year after the release of Death Stranding Kojima tweeted about Thai horror film The Eye.

The MGS and Death Stranding creator tweeted: “As to make the scariest horror game, I’ll watch the scary movies in order to awaken my horror soul.

“THE EYE is the Thai horror movie I rent when making PT but was too scary to finish watching.

“The package is scary so I rented the disc only. Will I be able to finish watching?”

And now further information has emerged which could indicate that a new Silent Hill game is in the works.

Masahiro Ito, the art director of PS2 titles Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, has tweeted to say they are working on a new game.

Ito-san tweeted: “I’m working on a title as a core member. I hope the title won’t be cancelled.”

The Silent Hill alumni then added: “About that, I can tell you nothing yet.”

The reference to the title not being “cancelled” is an interesting tease, especially considering Kojima’s Silent Hills was canned.

It remains to be seen what Ito-san is working on next, and when the mysterious project will actually get confirmed.

But until then it surely won’t stop fans speculating what the unannounced game is, and whether it’s a brand new Silent Hill game.

Kojima recently took to Twitter to post about his next game, with a clue-filled image tweeted to his millions of followers.

The MGS creator posted: “Working on the next concept while no one is in the office.”

Alongside this tweet was a picture of a computer showing an image of a sand dune, a cast of Norman Reedus’s face and a Sony Walkman, among other things.
