Simon Cowell left sad as he meets dog he saved from South Korea meat farm on GMB

Good Morning Britain had a sweet message to share this morning as the show brought attention to the dog meat trade in South Korea.

The use of dog meat farms in the country, in East Asia, which shares a land border with North Korea, has caused controversy for years with many across the globe campaigning for South Korea to ban dog meat.

And one celebrity in particular is very keen to stop pooches from being killed and eaten.

X Factor judge and music mogul Simon Cowell has always been very vocal about being a massive animal lover – with a few pooches even winning his show Britain’s Got Talent.

The star appeared on the show today to be reunited with a dog he saved back in 2018 when Simon donated £25,000 to save hundreds of dogs from being eaten, said Humane Society International.

Sitting on a sofa talking about how he feels about the farms, Simon said: “It’s like eating a friend.”

Clearly, and understandably, looking upset by the subject, the businessman was then sweetly surprised when he was told to turn around.

He twisted to release that Robin was in the room – one of the hundreds of dogs who were saved from one of the dog meat farms by the Humane Society International thanks to Simon’s donation.

Wagging his tail, Simon could be heard taking a gulp as he contained his emotions and reached out to cuddle him.

As he enjoyed a cuddle with the little guy, Simon thanked those who donate. He said: “Without people like you he’d be in someones stomach.”

Robin now lives a very happy life with his tale constantly wagging in Oxfordshire with his enthusiastic and loving dog mum, Pip.

Hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Adil Ray also couldn’t help but smile from ear-to-ear as they watched Simon via video from the studio.

Adil then explained that he has met Robin and is “good friends” with Pip.

He said: “Robin was in my bed two nights ago. I’m good friends with Pip outside of work.

“I wanted a dog for awhile so she let Robin come and stay for awhile to see if I wanted a dog and I fell in love with him.”

Adil added emotionally: “He’s just an incredible dog.”

Charlotte added: “Its tragic what is going on out there.”

Adil replied: “It’s good that pressure is working.”
