ORIGINAL STORY: Snapchat users are facing a frustrating start to the day with the popular service currently down and not working. It seems most Snapchat fans have been left unable to send or receive ephemeral text messages, photos, or video due to an outage with the popular photo-based chat service.
Data from independent website DownDetector, which tracks the server status of online services based on mentions across social media, shows thousands of Snapchat users complaining about being unable to launch the mobile app.
At the peak of the issues, more than 1,500 Snapchat users have complained about the issues, which are not limited to any particular mobile network or home broadband provider. Instead, it seems to be a problem with Snapchat’s servers.
Of those who are complaining about the issues, the vast majority – some 81 percent, according to the latest data collated from DownDetector – are having issues sending or receiving messages, which are known as “Snaps” within the app. The remaining percentage have been unable to take photos within the app or have been left unable to refresh their feed.
Fans have now taken to social media to complain of the outage with simply saying: “@snapchatsupport is Snapchat down?!
And another saying: “Snapchat owes me. I’m in quarantine as have few pleasures in life right now. #snapchatdown.”
There’s currently no word on how long this outage will last although some users are reporting that their app is slowly coming back online.
