Steph McGovern: BBC Breakfast star hits back after fan queries her charity donation

Former BBC Breakfast star Steph McGovern, 37, is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to her baby daughter last month. Last week, she shared a video about the Big Give campaign on Twitter.

I always donate to the charities I ask other people to donate to

The charity is a non-profit, charitable website that enables donors to find and support charity projects in their field of interest.

In view of her 387,000 followers, she wrote: “This charity is doing really important work to help the 1.8m kids at risk of going hungry.

“Every donation to Magic Breakfast’s #BigGive campaign will be matched (until 10th Dec) helping to reach more children and ensure they start their day with the fuel they need to learn.”

The presenter’s post prompted one of her followers to ask: “How much does Steph donate?”

The mother-of-one replied: “I always donate to the charities I ask other people to donate to.”

“Fantastic! So we have a guide can you say how much you donated?” the Twitter user continued to ask.

Steph is yet to respond to the Twitter user’s last query.

The Watchdog star gave birth to her first born last month after stepping down from her role on BBC Breakfast.

She announced the news of her birth on Twitter, writing: “Well hello world, just surfaced to let you know that we now have a daughter!

“Born on Monday morning just as @BBCBreakfast was wrapping up.

“We’re all fine and dandy. Just getting used to the eau de sick/poo I am now regularly wearing. #babylife.”

It is believed Steph’s baby is with her girlfriend, who works as a television executive.

Just days after her announcement, Steph McGovern told fans she was supposed to be appearing on Would I Lie To You?, but the show had been postponed.

She wrote: “I was meant to be on Would I Lie To You tonight, but it’s been postponed.

“Makes sense given how many lies there are around at the moment… It will be on after the election.”

The presenter shared the tweet on the same evening as the recent terror attack on London Bridge, where two people died.

One Twitter user presumed she was referring to this ordeal as they replied: “That’s a little uncalled for!

“It’s been postponed due to the horrific events that have unfolded in London today. I’m saddened to see you try to make light of this.”

Steph swiftly responded telling fans that there isn’t a link to the horrific incident and the decision to take it off screens was made a while ago.

She said: “It was postponed several weeks ago. Nothing to do with awful events tonight.

“Of course I wouldn’t make light of that.”

Following her departure from BBC Breakfast earlier this year, Steph will return as a host on her very own self-titled Channel 4 show next year.
